Syllabus: This unit explores classic plays by categorizing them according to the genres of tragedy and comedy. Within this genre studies approach, the plays will also be considered within the cultural and performance contexts of their creation and their subsequent performance history. As a means of positioning these texts within a contemporary performance environment practical dramaturgical skills will also be introduced
