Syllabus: Separation and analysis of cell populations. Uses of monoclonal antibodies and the flow cytometer. Molecular biology of antigens, antibodies, immune responses and immune regulation. Complement. Histocompatibility and the functional importance of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). Immune mechanisms of tissue damage. Immunoassays and blotting methods. Immunological diseases and their diagnosis. Predictive value of laboratory tests. Molecular genetics of the immune system. Psychoimmunology and its applications.
