Syllabus: Conservation equations for mass, momentum and heat. A comparison of various numerical techniques for computational fluid dynamics (CFD): introduction to finite difference and finite element methods. Solution to discretised algebraic equations. Finite volume method for diffusion problems. Finite volume method for convection and diffusion problems: pressure velocity coupling. Construction of geometry and discretisation using GAMBIT: Fluent's manuals. Commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solvers. Turbulence modelling. Implementation of boundary conditions. Introduction to multiphase flow. Customising a commercial CFD solver. Unsteady state simulations.
