Prerequisite(s): 308825 (v.1) Mechatronic Project 332 or any previous version
Syllabus: Mechatronic Motion system design: Modelling electro-mechanical drive systems. Motion sensing technology; incremental optical encoder. Position control - use of Proportaional Integral Derivative (PID), and model-based control schemes. Mechatronic Automation: Manipulator terminology, coordinate frames, homgenous matrix transformations, Industrial Robotics, Denavit-Hartberg Parameters and Modular Automation. Mechatronic Drive technologies: Electrical actuators, relative advantages, applications and control characteristics. Dc servo motors, terminology, driver circuits. Sizing/selection of dc servo motors, duty cycle load calculations. Design exercise: Working in groups of two students are required to design and implement a PC based motion controller for a dc motor drive system. This includes the interface electronics, software, modelling and analysis of a number of control schemes for position control.
