313549 v.1 Biochemistry Major (BSc Science)

Introduction

Many of the advances in human, plant and animal health rely on the understanding of both chemistry and biology. This course will provide graduates with skills and knowledge to work in this exciting interface. Students who choose to pursue the biochemistry course commence their study program with a range of science units designed to provide them with foundation skills and knowledge on which to build and specialise their degree. The second and third year program consists of a set of core units which develop skills essential to all practicing biochemists. Students also have the option to advance their study by doing a double major, or by selecting a range of extension topics as part of an extended single major. On completion of the three year degree, students who have performed well will be invited to complete an extra year of study to obtain an Honours qualification. The research focus of an Honours degree provides a pathway for career advancement at higher level than the base degree.
