MBA(Curtin)

Course CRICOS Code: 074577B
Registered full-time Duration for International Onshore Students on student visas: 1.5 Years

Introduction

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is offered through the Curtin Graduate School of Business (CGSB), one of the largest executive graduates business schools in the Asia Pacific Region and located in the heart of the Perth CBD. The MBA, which is internationally accredited by the UK based Association of MBAs (AMBAs) is also one of the few MBAs in Australia to be internationally ranked by the The Economist. In November 2009 the course was awarded a prestigious Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) award for post-graduate courses that enhance learning. December 2010 the online component of the MBA was awarded teChnology Enhanced Learning (CEL) accreditation by the European Foundation for Management Development (efmd). The MBA curriculum has a highly applied and practical focus and is delivered by business practitioners as well as award winning academic faculty and international visiting professors. It is designed to build business acumen amongst middle and senior managers by providing a broad-based business content tailored for experienced managers drawn from across a range of industry sectors. The course structure meets the needs of busy working professionals with many units offered in intensive (block), evening and online. The typical student in the MBA is around 34 years of age and brings a high level of experience to the course.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or equivalent, and at least three years relevant work experience. Selection, which is competitive, will be based on a range of information including grades achieved in previous study, referee reports, relevance of work experience, career aspirations and test results. Applicants are required to submit referee reports and a CV. Interviews may also be required. Applicants with three or more years of relevant work experience and who have completed a graduate qualification in the last three years, or who have completed four units of the Graduate Certificate in Business, may be offered entry to the Master of Business Administration. Well-performed candidates without an appropriate background may be admitted but will be required to complete appropriate bridging and special course units as prescribed. In certain cases, the need to complete these special units may result in an extension of studies beyond the normal length of the course.

Specific Requirements

The Graduate Board of Examiners requires, unless there are exceptional circumstances, that those with more than two failures in the course or more than four units with grades below 60 per cent be excluded from the course, so as to maintain the high standard expected of such a prestigious qualification.
