Syllabus: A systems approach will be used to investigate vertebrate animals and vascular plants. The physical, chemical and biochemical principles common to physiological systems, such as respiration, digestion and excretion, as well as regulatory systems, will be investigated for all major vertebrate groups. For vascular plants emphasis will be placed on plant-water relations and water-use efficiency, photosynthesis, plant growth in relation to environmental stressors such as drought or flooding.
