Syllabus: Central Nervous System: Introduction to receptors in the central nervous system: Drugs used to treat Parkinsonism and other neurodegenerative disorders: Drugs used to treat behavioural disorders: The chloride ion-GABA receptor complex. Benzodiazepine receptor agonists and antagonists: Sedative-hypnotic/anti-anxiety drugs. Antipsychotic drugs; antidepressants: Drugs used to treat the epilepsies. Cardiovascular and renal systems: Drugs affecting renal and cardiovascular function: Diuretics: Thiazides; loop diuretics; potassium sparing diuretics. Vasodilators: Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, nitrovasodilators, calcium channel blockers. Inotropic drugs; drugs affecting heart rhythm. Drugs affectingblood coagulation. Drugs affecting lipoprotein metabolism. Endocrine System: Drugs and hormone systems: Drugs affecting the reproductive system. Selective oestrogen receptor modifiers.
