Area: Department of Chemical Engineering
Credits: 12.5
Contact Hours: 3.0
Lecture: 1 x 2 Hours Weekly
Tutorial: 1 x 1 Hours Weekly
Anti Requisite(s): 302394 (v.2) ChE 517 Process Design and Synthesis or any previous version
Prerequisite(s): 308572 (v.1) ChE 312 Process Synthesis and Design I or any previous version
Syllabus: This unit involves the use of the fundamental concepts and principles of process synthesis and design introduced in ChE 312, coupled with the learning and use of the flowsheet simulator ASPEN Plus for process design. The contents include deeper flowsheet analysis, selection of thermodynamic property package and thermodynamic analysis of chemical plant, synthesis of separation trains, separation operations modelling using ASPEN Plus, advanced reactor modelling, pinch technology, optimisation of process flow diagram, dynamic simulation principles, chemical plant controllability analysis, and the application of knowledge in a design project.
