312657 v.1 Borneo Studies Major

Introduction

Multi-disciplinary in its approach and through a multiplicity of theoretical perspectives complemented with hands-on field trips, the Borneo Studies major is meant to provoke thought and stimulate interest towards an informed understanding of Borneo (Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan). This major is designed to enable students to develop insights into various areas of relevance to studying Borneo: culture, communication, history, economics, the environment, natural resources, sustainable development, politics, indigenous issues, linguistics, spirituality, and society. In combination with other majors, the Borneo Studies major provides a broad range of skills and knowledge to students who intend to pursue careers - within Borneo and the Asia-Pacific region in particular – pertaining to: the government and public sector, civil society and research organisations, natural resources (utilisation, conservation and management), education and teaching.
