Syllabus: Contaminants of concerns for the environment are reviewed. Effects of contaminants on biota, from subcellular to ecosystem levels with emphasis on biomarkers of ecosystem health. Preventive ecotoxicology by laboratory testing, and environmental forensicsby measurements of effects in the field, are a major part of the unit. Australian perspective on contaminants and contaminated areas, long range transport of contaminants, and case studies are presented throughout the unit.
