Lecture: 1 x 2 Hours Weekly
Syllabus: Introduction to toxicology including an overview of the principles of forensic toxicology and relevant legislation. The nervous system and its role in drug action. General principles of pharmacology, including dose-response relationships; pharmacokinetics (absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs), routes of metabolism (Phase 1 and Phase 2), agonist and antagonists, the role of genetics on drug metabolism. Mechanisms of central nervous system drugs. Carcinogenesis/Toxicities.
