Introduction

A practice-oriented professional qualification designed to give graduates theoretical perspectives and competencies at an advanced level. It covers a range of social work knowledge and skills, including policy development, practice, ethics and supervision of staff and students.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A degree in social work from a recognised university that meets the minimum educational requirements for admission to membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. In addition, a minimum of 12 months documented relevant work experience.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is eighteen months full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some optional units may be available externally although external study is not permitted for international onshore students on student visas. This course is not available from 2010 and onwards.

Course Organisation

The course can be undertaken with either a research or a practice emphasis, thus providing opportunity to focus on contemporary workplace directions. Students may, if they wish, pursue an area of specialisation through the choice of an optional unit. Students also choose their field of practice or research project. The Department endeavours to alternate times of on-camps lectures for the convenience of students. Lectures, practical exercises, role-plays, videos, discussions and client stories contribute to a varied and engaging learning atmosphere.
