Syllabus: Sociology of regional change and development. Examination of a particular region of the world such as Africa, Asia or Southeast Asia, the Pacific or Latin America. Development, underdevelopment and industrialisation. Nation, state and politics. Rural transformation and agrarian differentiation. Production and gender relations. Culture and ideology. Ethnic histories and minority identities. Problems of refugees and displaced peoples. Case studies.
