Syllabus: The 'receiving end' of media, communication and information processes, consumers, users and public. Social and cultural consequences of consumption. Cognitive and socio-behavioural approaches to information acquisition and use. Information, mediation and the public sphere. Audiences and the formation of sub-cultures. Public spheres and national communities.
