Introduction

This double degree in Communication and Cultural Studies and Secondary Education meets the requirements of the relevant educational bodies. Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

TEE English or English Literature, minimum scaled mark of 60 is desirable.

Specific Requirements

The Faculty of Education requires all Secondary Education students to pass a literacy competence test in the first year of the course. Successful applicants will be required to submit a recent Police Clearance and Working with Children Check (see page 5)at enrolment time. STAT elements considered are E and V.

Note

Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees. The Department of Education requires all students to pass a literacy and numeracy competence test in the first year of the degree.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is four years' full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

Students undertake one Major in: Creative Writing; Literary and Cultural Studies; Performance Studies; Professional Writing and Publishing with the Secondary Education Major. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two areas. In this event, the relevant Head of Department shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
