Introduction

The Curtin MLM is designed to enhance expertise and further develop leadership potential. Theoretical frameworks and applied knowledge are integrated to enable development of crucial skills of adaptability and innovation. The curriculum focuses on understanding and responding to key leadership challenges facing society.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree from a recognized Australian tertiary institution or equivalent, and at least three years relevant work experience. Selection, which is competitive, is based on a range of information including previous academic results, referee reports, relevance of work experience and career aspirations. Applicants are required to submit referee reports and a curriculum vitae. Interviews form part of the selection process. Applicants with three or more years of relevant work experience and who have completed an undergraduate qualification, or who have completed four units of the Graduate Certificate in Business with an average of 70% or better, may be offered entry to the Master of Leadership and Management. High performing candidates without an appropriate academic background may be admitted, but may be required to complete appropriate bridging and special course units as prescribed. This may result in an extension of studies beyond the normal length of the course.

Specific Requirements

The Graduate Board of Examiners require, unless there are exceptional circumstances, that those with more than two failures in the course or more than four units with grades below 60 per cent be excluded from the course, so as to maintain the high standard expected of such a prestigious qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is of three trimesters full-time or equivalent part-time study, and is conducted mostly in trimesters, allowing full-time students to complete the course in 12 months. Some units are conducted over a week-long period requiring the student tohave time away from work. Residential segments and weekend classes are also scheduled during the program, forming compulsory components of the course. Availability of units, work commitments and an intention to undertake advanced specialisation may increase the course duration to two years. Intermediate Awards 1

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:

Course Organisation

Students must complete 12 course units to graduate with a Master of Leadership and Management. Students may select an additional four elective units, receiving instead an award of Master of Leadership and Management (Advanced).

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. Additional costs for accommodation during residential segments and for outdoor activities related to the course will apply.
