Syllabus:

An introduction to the study of language use in society. Provides students with an overview of the nature of communication, language in verbal communication and intercultural communication. Topics covered include different perspectives on communication, perceptions of self and others in communication, different conceptualisations of language, social factors that help shape verbal communication and factors that influence intercultural communication.
