Syllabus:

Civil project economics - principles of financial establishment and control of construction projects. Economic assessment of engineering projects. Cost benefit and other evaluation techniques. Selection of construction plant and equipment. Principles oftender appraisal. Case studies. Risk and uncertainty. Geotechnical engineering - consolidation and consolidation settlements, soil consolidation and settlement problems, soil consolidation. Preconsolidation and estimation of the preconsolidation pressure.Settlement computations. Slope stability. Stability of infinite slopes and finite slopes. Slope with water in the tensile crack. Lateral earth pressure, Rankine's theory. Diagrams for lateral earth pressure distribution against retaining walls. Coulomb'searth pressure theory. Effect of wall friction on passive pressure.
