Review of database models, normalisation, and physical storage methods. Examples of database systems. CODASYL model, record access paths, design and performance evaluation. Database integrity, consistency, and security controls. Concurrency, transaction schedules and protocols. Recovery techniques. Distributed databases. Specialised databases.
