Syllabus:

Photography Component - This program will, by utilising still film and digital photographic cameras, investigate the integration and application of photography with design devices and applications. Through a series of projects, students will develop intermediate level skills in location photography, studio portrait lighting and illustrative techniques and principals. The program will also introduce the concept of 'design photography' whereby integrating design principles to the study of the still medium, photography is recognised as a core element of design practice. Colour Component - the program is based on the notion that greater awareness, understanding and control of the different aspects of appearance can lead to more effective communication in design. For the purposes of the program 'colour' also includes tone, surface quality and degrees of transparency and opacity. From a sequence of experiences and assignments students build a 'toolkit' of concepts that can be applied in design and they assemble a permanent sources of reference from their notes and assignment work.
