Syllabus:

Stresses in materials: Stress and strain at a point - Mohr's circle. Combined bending and axial stress, shear stress and material failure and composite beams. Materials: concrete - strength, workability, mix design, placement and curing. Timber - structural properties of timber, defects and preservation, durability and grading. Steel, formation and properties of different types of steels. Influence of different alloys. Asphalt cements - production and applications. Geosynthetics - applications.
