Mining methods using backfill. Selection of backfill. Fill types and materials. Non-geotechnical aspects - manufacture, reticulation, transportation and placement. Cementing agents, binders and other additives. Performance - support, bearing capacity andexposure stability. Stope preparation - barriers and drainage. Laboratory and field testing. Scheduling. Design - physical, analytical and computer methods. Rock backfill interaction. Soil mechanics. Case studies. Literature study assignment.
