Syllabus:

Social and cultural anthropology in a changing world, the myth of the 'primitive isolate', nature, society and production in tribal and non-industrial state societies, impact of the west upon tribal and non-industrial state societies. Forms of resistanceand reaction to western influence. Creation of the 'developing world' and theories of 'development', peasant societies and agrarian transformation, urbanisation in the 'developing', the north/south divide and the environmental crisis.
