Syllabus:

Effective and ineffective strategies to minimise drug related harms. Research in drug education, current issues and Programs. HIV/AIDS prevention and control strategies. Research in HIV/AIDS, current Australian and international issues. Educational methods, resources and programs in the HIV/AIDS area. Establishing a supportive environment, issues in human sexuality, terminology, research in human sexuality. Controversy in sexuality education in school. Useful and harmful ways of teaching sexuality education. Current programs and resources in sexuality.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Describe significant issues in drug, HIV/AIDS, and sexuality education within schools, the community and worksites. Outline the role of education as a change agent in these areas. Evaluate resources for education programs in drug, HIV/AIDS and sexuality education in school, community and worksite settings. Describe different methodologies for drug, HIV/AIDS and sexuality education in school, community and worksite settings. Identify ethical and political considerations in the delivery of programs. Demonstrate an ability to utilise personal skills in the presentation and synthesis of subject matter in these areas.
