Syllabus:

Australia - the nature of industrial relations, history, structure and government of trade unions and employer organisations, role of government, history and functions of tribunals. Collective bargaining and arbitration. Industrial conflict.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Understanding of the history, structure and functions of the Australian and West Australian industrial relations systems. Understanding of the economic and social factors underpinning wage levelsand relativities. Become able to discuss the causes and consequences of recent changes in labour market and employment structures. Become able to critically evaluate the relationship between employment relations and broader social policy issues and debates at the national and personal level. Become able to develop IR strategies and processes which are consistent with an organisation's goals and culture.
