Syllabus:

Rationale for WHP. Defining target groups. Needs assessment. Occupational health and safety issues. Marketing strategies. Planning steps. Behavioural and structural interventions and strategies. Case studies. Barriers to effective WHP programs. Ethics. Evaluation.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Explain the rationale for using the worksite as a setting for Worksite Health Promotion (WHP). Set targets for WHP. Discuss the relationship between WHP and occupational health and safety. Describe approaches to establishing and planning WHP programs. Discuss methods of marketing WHP to employers and employees. Target programs to suit different groups of workers (e.g professional, blue collar). Describe behavioural and structural (policy, environmental, organisational) intervention strategies suitable for WHP programs. Analyse case studies of WHP programs. Evaluate WHPs. Identify barriers to effective WHP programs.
