Syllabus:

Exploration of various aspects of the change of work methods process. The full spectrum of issues which can be involved in the process of redesigning work. These issues can be from implementation of family friendly policies to organisational restructuring, from TQM to re-engineering, from flattening structures to implementing more hierarchy, from training and development procedures to downsizing from skill formation. Redesign processes are put into a context which takes into account the impact of environmental factors and systems affecting any of the processes used in work redesign and their outcomes. Allows coverage of issues relevent to individuals professional careers.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Examined processes of redesigning or restructuring work. Assessed the appropriateness of an organisation's redesign processes. Recommend appropriate redesign procedures. Indicated the assumptions, benefits and flaws in any redesign process.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

Assessment may consist of TBD (To Be Decided) 50%; Assignment 50%. This is done by grade/mark assessment. Assessment methods and procedures will be discussed in the first session. Participants will have some say in the format of the assessment process. Students must submit all assignment set, complete the exams and attend 80% of lectures if the course is to be assessed complete. Failure to complete the course results in a DNC - Did Not Complete - being awarded irrespective of the total mark obtained.
