Syllabus:

Sociology of welfare organisations. Human relations. Bureaucracy, power and control. Professionalism in welfare. Organisational change. Evolution of administrative principles. Decision theory. Tools of management. Motivation and communication. Affirmative action. Program evaluation. Staff stress and strain. Equal employment opportunity legislation and practice.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have - The ability to analyse human service organisations, their structures, processes and conflicts from a socio-political perspective. Critically analyse from a number of perspectives organisational theories and concepts and apply this understanding to the management and provision of human services. Examined contemporary management theories and practices and assess their relevance for enhancing organisational and worker effectiveness. Identified the impact on human service organisations posed by "managerialism" and develop organisational strategies and responses that sustain principles of social justice and citizenship values. Developed alternate and creative organisational practice models for archiving good social work practice.
