Syllabus: | Moral, political and social theory for social policy. Exploration of concepts such as equality, justice, freedom and responsibility and human needs.The state in a democratic society, the individual and the state. Social science and social policy, the policy analysis. Impact of social policy. The welfare state and social policy. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- A knowledge of philosophical approaches to the analysis of concepts such as justice, equality, equity, human nature, needs and rights. A knowledge of ways in which the relationship between the individual, state and society has been conceptualized. An understanding of the processes by which social policies are developed and implemented within the modern capitalist state. An understanding of the basic principles of economic analysis and the contribution of economic analysis to the policy process. |
