Syllabus: | Ideology and social work praxis - the political economy of social work practice. The impact of critical theory. Radical humanism, feminism, anti-racist theory and postmodernism on social work theory and practice. Integrating personal philosophy with political practice. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Examined the ideological and political bases of social work practice. Identified the implications of a global political economy perspective for social work theory and practice in modern day societies. Examined traditional and contemporary models and strategies of social work practice from a critical and human rights perspective. Understood the historical basis of emancipatory social work practice. Demonstrated an understanding of the relationshipbetween social work and industrial issues. Utilised appropriate strategies and skills associated with critical perspectives as they pertain to social work practice. |
