Syllabus:

Developmental anatomy of limbs and vertebral column. Histology of tissues. Regional dissection and measurement. Kinematics, in mass, moment of inertia. Force, moment of force. Laws of motion. Free body diagrams and kinetic analysis. Analysis of movement, physiotherapy techniques and injury. Joint motion. Properties of articular cartilage and complex tissue systems.
 

Unit Outcomes:

Upon completion of the anatomy component of the unit students will have - Described in depth the structure and function of the musculoskeletal system of the trunk and limbs and related the anatomy to age related and dysfunctional changes with reference to clinical presentations. Completed a dissection of one part of the human body and reviewed the anatomical literature related to a specific pathology, condition or structure. Referred to research or information described in recent scientific articles as asource or justification for statements when involved in anatomical information and used internet and multimedia resources to access anatomical information. Taken part in anatomical discussion in a professional environment in an informative, scholarly and discursive way. Upon completion of the biomechanics component of the unit students will have - Solved problems using analysis based on biomechanical principles and demonstrated the use of common biomechanics laboratory technology. Demonstrated an ability to analyse a variety of clinical problems using data gathered in the biomechanics laboratory and integrated the biomechanics literature into clinical practice.
