Syllabus:

Introduction of methodology and practice as it relates to the field of Product Design with an emphasis on the understanding of design principles and the elements of design. This unit is undertaken over a six week period.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have- Developed a theoretical understanding and become able to apply the principles and elements of design as it relates to the three dimensional world and products. Developed further their understanding and practice of the design process that is researched, analysed, ideational, produced, communicated and evaluated as the underlying basis for the practice of design. Improved graphic representational communication skills. Developed further their understanding of methodological issues and practices for designing in three-dimensions. Developed further an open-mined and critical thinking approach to design ideation and development. Developed further problem-solving skills to design. Developed further a predisposition to innovative in preference to conventional assumptions and thinking. developed further independent learning skills.
