Syllabus:

Catholic education in Australia - a brief history of Catholic education and the structure of Catholic education in Western Australia. Evangelisation and the mission of Catholic schools, the culture of the Catholic school, and the role of the teacher in the Catholic School. The study of the language of Catholic education and current challenges facing Catholic schools.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have- Shown understanding in the use of the language of Catholic education. Recognised the contribution of history to present understandings of the role of the Catholic School. Articulated perceptions of the mission of Catholic Schools. Articulated the role of the teacher in the Catholic School. Identified interaction between the values of the Catholic school and specific curriculum areas. Recognised and critically evaluated emerging education issues and challenges specific to Catholic education.
