Syllabus:

Exploration of contemporary debates around human rights, including issues of universality, cultural relativism, public or private, individual or collective - as a basis for practice in social work community development or community services. Linkages to understandings of ethical codes and ethical practice.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On sucessful completion of this unit, students will have - Been introduced to the contemporary theorising about human rights. Examined the link between human rights and ethics. Developed frameworks for practice based on human rights and principles. Developed understandings of the social worker or community development worker, counsellor and human service practioners as human rights workers. Critiqued current codes of ethics from a human rights perspective.
