Syllabus:

The nature and role of statistics in scientific research - concepts of experimental design, descriptive studies, and analytical studies. Application of appropriate statistical procedures to different research designs. Use and interpretation of output from statistical computing packages. A statistical computing project is part of the formal assessment.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Learned the fundamental concepts and definitions that are necessary for the understanding of statistics in research applications. Applied commonly used descriptive statistics to research data. Understood the relationship between inferential statistics, hypothesis testing, and experimental design. Used and interpreted the out put from an appropriate statistical computing package. Presented statistical results in manner suitable in a graduate thesis or scientific publication.
