Syllabus:

Industry analysis, leveraging resources and capabilities, business strategies, vertical integration and diversification, international strategy, strategy implementation, strategic alliances, managing international supply chains, international consideration for functional areas - human resource management, marketing, accounting and finance, and ethics.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will - Understand how the industry and other external factors interface with the development of strategy. Have developed an awareness of how competencies are developed and leveraged. Appreciate how some of the key business strategies - capacity and cost position, strategic market segmentation and innovation, can be used and when their use is appropriate. Understand the drivers of a successful corporate strategy. Appreciate the key elements of successful strategy implementation. Understand the key drivers of international competitiveness. Develop an awareness and understanding of the key cultural, human resource, economic and financial and marketing competencies that are necessary to successfully operate an organisation in an international environment. Have explored the dimensions of culture that are important to leaders as individuals in dealing with overseas firms or operating in another country. Develop and understanding of the ethical issue confronting leaders who do business in the global environment and develop personal pro-active strategies to mange these issues. Understand the complexities of managing international supply chains.
