Syllabus:

The origins and development of environmental health. Toxicological-identification and evaluation of hazardous substances and wastes, and their associated exposure health risks. Environmental epidemiology - methods and use in risk assessments. Environmental contaminants. Risk assessment, risk management tools. Environmental health impact assessments.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Explain the importance of environmental health issues within the broader public health field. Describe the background of environmental health and the changing scope of its concerns. Explain how disturbances to the major environmental compartments can produce health impacts. Explain the value of processes such as environmental health impact assessment in predicting, evaluating and managing potential impacts.
