Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit students will - Have been taught the aspects of geology and geophysics relevant to an engineer employed in the petroleum industry. Been Provided with grounding in some of the fundamentals of geology, such as mineralogy, stratigraphy and structural geology, with an emphasises those aspects, such as sedimentology and diagenesis, which impact significantly on the recovery of hydrocarbons. Knowledge of the origin, migration and entrapment of hydrocarbons, together with methodologies of assessing the magnitude of hydrocarbon accumulations. The geophysical aspects of the unit concentrate on the acquisition, processing and interpretation of seismic data as applied to the exploration and recovery of hydrocarbons.
