Syllabus:

Examination of a selection of the different varieties of English spoken throughout the world. These include a selection of so-called native speaker English, for example British, Australian and so-called non-native varieties, such as Singaporean, Indigenous and Indian. Exploration and analysis of the differences between varieties in pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and socio-cultural roles.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have understood that English has several different varieties. They will have an understanding of - how these varieties differ, how varieties of English can reflect local cultures and how English can beseen as an Asian language.
