Syllabus:

Phonon formalism, prediction of thermal properties. Band theory of solids, behaviour of semiconductors. Fermi surface description of metals. Superconductivity. Dielectrics and ferroelectrics, magnetism, diamagnetism, paramagnestism, ferromagnetism, antiferromagnetism. Magnetic resonance. Defects and disorder in crystals, dislocations, surface and interface properties.
