Syllabus:

Classification of instructional illustrations according to graphic characteristics, presentation format and instructional function. Visual processing and learning. Developing illustration rich resources, including the design of original instructional visuals. Student generated illustrations. Contextually-based evaluation of the instructional effectiveness of illustrations. Approaches for the effective integration of illustrations with other information formats.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have- Classified instructional illustrations accoring to their graphic characteristics, presentation format and instructional function. Explained the roles of perceptual and cognitive processing capacities in visual learning and their implications for the effectiveness of instruction. Designed and developed illustration-rich instructional resources that incorporate principled approaches to visual learning. Devised learning activities that make use of the instructional potential of student-generated illustrations as a tool for learning. Evaluated and revised visual learning resources in order to increase their effectiveness in a specific instructional context. Integrated illustrations with other information formats in order to produce effective instructional materials.
