Syllabus: | Normal and abnormal cognitive and behavioural changes associated with ageing, social and mental indicators, health promotion, illness prevention, early intervention and social support networks, grief and loss, care-giving burden and service models. |

Unit Outcomes: | Upon completion of this unit the student will be able to - Compare and contrast normal and abnormal cognitive and behavioural changes associated with ageing. Identify relevant social and mental health indicators in a given context and analyse their relationship to the physical and mental health of older adults. Analyse the effectiveness of health promotion and illness prevention intervention programmes in improving mental health outcomes for older adults. Evaluate intervention strategies from a range of theoretical perspectives as they relate to the health and well-being of older adults in a given context experiencing death, dying, loss and grief. Analyse the impact of care-giving on the health and well-being of older adult caregivers. |
