Syllabus:

Ways in which the concept of narrative or narrativity is central to contemporary cultural analysis through the reading of a number of popular contemporary texts - cultural practices, film and print, fictions investigates how our perceptions of the real are mediated through larger organising narratives of culture.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Developed an understanding of how various genres and rhetorics are used to produce and naturalise ideas of self and various forms of identity that operate within the social. Examined cultural narratives and discovered the ways in which dominant and emergent ideas are embedded within the storying process. Explored the representation and narrativisation of a number of key cultural and social concepts of self, subject and national identities.
