Syllabus:

Reading, analysing and contextualising professional communication. Analysis of texts to a variety of contexts - personal, interpersonal, organisational, and public. Decoding non-verbal communication. Issues of cross-cultural communication with emphasis on arts communication. Analysis of videos, speeches and electronic texts. Analysis of communication strategies in a variety of arts communications newsletters, in-house journals, reviews and brochures.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Enhanced their professional writing and presentation skills. Developed an understanding of argument and debate as culturally positioned, arising from specific cultural contexts and directed to specific audiences. Been introduced to the skills of presenting arguments in various forms and genres, written and oral and in real professional contexts. Developed through the concept of 'responsible advocacy', an awareness of the ethical issues involved in arguing for particular points of view. Increased skills of self-presentation in various media and technologies. Developed research skills as a part of their ability to present cases effectively.
