Syllabus:

Understanding the genre of the argumentative essay, interpreting directional words and their use in organising essays. Developing an academic style, understanding how to avoid plagiarism by developing sound referencing and quotation skills. Report of 1000 - 3000 words.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Develop an understanding of the genre of the argumentative essay. Interpret directional words in essay titles and organise essays according to directional words. Develop confidence and competence in using a wide range of vocabulary appropriate to an academic style. Understand how to avoid plagiarism by developing sound referencing and quoting skills. Develop further the skill of proof-reading and editing their own work. Organise an argumentative essay or report of 2000-3000 words.
