Syllabus:

Guided independent study of a particular topic presented either as a literature review directed towards the definition and evaluation of a viticultural problem or as a research project on a current viticultural issue. The experiment is established at local vineyards. Students collect and analyse the data and prepare a report.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit students will have - Had an introduction to students to research methodology. Understood the critical importance of accurately defining research problems. Appreciated the importance of undertaking preliminary research to identify what work has already been published on the topic. had introductions to the more sophisticated tools for undertaking literature search. Understood the problems and sources of error in research design. Understood measures of statistical significance and the confidence levels applied to data. Demonstrated the student's ability to prepare an appropriate research proposal which accurately addresses and understands the research problem, the means of gathering and collecting information and data analysis.
