Syllabus: | Introduction to public health, its origins and development. The measurement of public health. Major public health problems in developed and developing countries. Determinants of public health, ethical public health practice. Regulatory, technical, cognitive, structural and participative interventions of public health, public health strategies, planning, implementation and program evaluation. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Describe the origins and historical development of public health, the measures and determinants of public health and the interventions of public health. Identify the skills used in applyingpublic health measures and interventions. Improve their skills to communicate about public health problems and solutions. Possess an academically transdisciplinary approach to public health that draws on the subject matter of the biomedical, behavioural and social sciences, and the principles and methods of epidemiology and other research disciplines so as to create an integrated view of the entire field of study. |
