Syllabus:

Role of the Podiatrist in health care, epidermal pathology and its treatment. Inflammation and repair. Treatment of inflammatory conditions. Introduction to clinical skills and patient management. Common conditions of the nail, common skin infections virus, wart and fungal infections. Biomechanics of skin. Common treatment for the above conditions. Clinical protocol. Structure and function of Integumenary system.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Recognise common podiatric conditions. Have an understanding of the causes and methods of control of infection in the clinical environment. Effectively and safely use clinical instruments and clinical materials in the treatment of basic foot problems/conditions. Have an understanding of the history, scope, limitations and ideals of the profession of Podiatry.
