Syllabus:

An introduction to the basic computer and photographic processes used to create design visuals. This practical studio-based unit enables non BA (Design) students to better deal with the practical expectations of the School's design minor programs.
 

Unit Outcomes:

Presented in 3 components. Photography component introduces students to black and white photography, processing and printing. Students undertaking the unit will require access to a standard 35mm manual-operating camera. Design Process component introduces students to creative or design process, the procedural set of activities common to almost all design disciplines. Design Computing component introduces students to the digital design studio, Macintosh platform. This component introduces students to industry standard graphic design software packages.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Scanned and manipulated photographic images, set and manipulated type, constructed basic graphics for the purposes of generating design layouts. Shot, processed and printed black and white film.Understood the purpose and procedure of 'design process' and be able to apply it in the context of solving a visual communication problem.
